Amidst increasing public worry over talks of negotiations being held between India and Myanmar regarding the border, Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Home Minister of Manipur today refrained from offering any comment on the matter, asserting that the government will provide a response “at an appropriate time”.
Journalist asked the Home Minister Govindas on his way to attend the two-day consultation seminar-cum-workshop on “Demographic Profile of Manipur”, organized by the Home Department at City Convention. When quizzed about talks regarding border discussions and concerns regarding the territorial implications for the state of Manipur, Govindas Singh did not offer any details.
“I request you to give some time. We will make a response at an appropriate time,” he said.
The issue has gained relevance after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on August 4 that talks have been initiated by India and Myanmar on settling portions of the international border that have not yet been demarcated. Speaking to the press in New Delhi, the MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal informed that efforts were being made by the nations to sort out the boundary issues through bilateral discussions.
