The Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Manipur, has resolved to observe the upcoming Patriots’ Day with a renewed emphasis on fostering social consciousness and patriotic spirit among the students and youth of the state, as part of efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The decision was adopted during a day-long special brainstorming session convened by IDS under the chairmanship of Prof. N. Mohendro Singh at Khagempalli Panthak, Imphal, recently. The meeting was attended by R.K. Dilip Singh, Dr. Kh. Somorendro, Th. Premkumar, P. Ibochouba, R.K. Priyobrata, Kh. Tomba and other participants.
The meeting deliberated on a range of issues affecting the state, including widespread extortion along national highways, the steep rise in prices of essential commodities, growing unemployment among educated youth, and the deteriorating law and order situation.
Participants observed that restoring normalcy requires strong political will, effective governance, and strict enforcement of law and order. They also stressed the need for a comprehensive policy framework based on both national and regional perspectives to promote peace, mutual trust, and harmony among the affected ethnic communities.
Drawing inspiration from nationalist leader Eknath Ranade, who mobilized nationwide support for the construction of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari, the participants underscored the importance of visionary leadership in Manipur. They said the state needs educated and dedicated political leaders with integrity, effective communication skills, and a deep understanding of Manipur’s history and culture.
The meeting further called for sustained efforts to improve per capita income, create employment opportunities, and address the growing mental health and social challenges confronting the younger generation. The participants maintained that these measures are essential for rebuilding public confidence and ensuring long-term peace and development in the state.
