The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs), Ukhrul, has announced the temporary suspension of its proposed counter blockade until July 26, 2026, relaxing its earlier decision announced in a press release dated July 22.
In a statement, the committee said the decision was taken in view of the ongoing negotiations being led by leaders of Kuki-Zo civil society organisations from Ukhrul and Kangpokpi.
The organisation said that during a joint meeting held at Kangpokpi on July 24, the participating organisations unanimously resolved to make every effort to achieve a democratic resolution to the ongoing economic crisis. It added that a second round of discussions with the concerned government authorities has been scheduled to explore all possible avenues for a just, honourable and lasting settlement.
While reaffirming that dialogue remains its preferred course of action, the committee cautioned that its willingness to negotiate should not be viewed as a sign of weakness. It stated that if the talks fail to produce a tangible and favourable outcome, the Kuki-Zo civil society organisations would have no option but to intensify democratic agitations to protect the rights and interests of their people.
