The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed over the alleged murder of Ngangkham Thambou of Keirao Wangkhem Mamang Leikai has imposed a 72-hour blockade along the Imphal–Yairipok road, demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved in the case.
JAC Convenor Phijam Brojen said the blockade will begin at midnight today and will continue until midnight on July 27. He said essential services, including healthcare, media, religious activities and emergency services, have been exempted.
The JAC alleged that despite repeated appeals, the authorities have failed to arrest all the accused in connection with Thambou’s death and the assault on his companion, prompting the committee to launch the blockade with support from local residents.
Meanwhile, Irilbung Police have detained one person suspected of involvement in the assault on Thambou’s companion, who is undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital. Police have not officially disclosed further details.
The JAC also claimed that the post-mortem examination of Thambou’s body has been delayed pending the arrest of all those involved. It appealed to the Chief Minister, the Home Minister and the local MLA to ensure that the accused are brought to justice without delay.
