Father shoots son dead

A 35-year-old man was shot dead by his father using a licensed double-barrel shotgun (SBBL) at Koutruk Awang Leikai, near the Sports University Gate, under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West district on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 6:50 pm yesterday. The deceased has been identified as N. Kishan (35), while the accused is his father, Ningthoujam Samton (57).

Kishan is survived by his wife and a daughter. His wife is reported conceived. He worked as a mason and was the eldest among four siblings. He is the eldest among four brothers.

Preliminary information suggests that the father and son had an altercation over a domestic issue, during which Samton allegedly shot Kishan with his licensed SBBL shotgun.

Kishan sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Raj Medicity Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, the accused fled the scene along with the firearm and remains absconding.

Meanwhile, residents of the locality convened a meeting at Samton’s residence today morning and reportedly resolved to ostracise him from the locality for the remainder of his life.

Lamshang Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident and launched an investigation. Kishan’s body has been kept at the RIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities.
