The Rhythms of Manipur celebrated its 41st Foundation Day yesterday 10th July, at the Golden Jubilee Stage of Manipuri Jagoi Marup Imphal. The premiere of its latest new music composition entitled “Surgee Khonthang” was the main highlight of the observance.
Chingtham Budha, Member Board of Governors, EZCC Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The President of Rhythms of Manipur, Likmabam Manibabu Singh and social worker Aribam Amarjit Sharma attended as President and Guest of Honour, respectively.
Altogether twenty musicians, including six ladies artistes involved in the thirty-five-minute-long music composition. Haobam Nisheshwor Singh is the music composer.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Budha Chingtham expressed concern over the situation of the State since May 2023 and challenges faced by the artistes. He lauded the Rhythms of Manipur for continuing its fine artistes’ works despite the challenges.
Mention may be made here that the Rhythms of Manipur, established in the year 1985, successfully performed in many parts of the country besides performing in many Asian countries, namely Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Laos, Vietnam, and Trinidad since 2013.Two of its music compositions, namely the Journey and Dancing Drummers, won national Doordarshan awards.
