The Apex Committee of Meetei Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Manipur, has condemned the alleged firing by Kuki militants at Torbung Maning in Bishnupur district on the night of July 3, describing the incident as a threat to civilian safety and ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state.
In a statement, the committee expressed concern over the incident, which it said occurred at around 11:30 p.m., and conveyed solidarity with the affected residents.
The committee urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible and take prompt action. It also appealed to security forces to strengthen security measures in vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of civilians and their property.
Reiterating its commitment to peace, justice and the protection of displaced and conflict-affected communities, the committee called on all stakeholders to work collectively towards restoring lasting peace and harmony in Manipur.
The Apex Committee also extended its support to the joint public notification issued by the Torbung United Club (TUC), Lamthabung Area Voluntary Association (LAVA), Youth Development Organisation (YDO), Youth Social Development Organisation (YSDO), Social Youth Development Organisation (SYDOP), Youth Development Club (YDC) and Ibudhou Thangjing Youth Development Organisation (ITYDO).
