Woman found dead in Singjapokpi canal laid to rest after post-mortem

The body of a woman recovered from the Singjapokpi canal under the jurisdiction of Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district yesterday was handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary.

The deceased has been identified as Thokchom Anjali Leima alias Thoibinao (25), wife of Th. Herojit Meitei, a resident of Thongjao Makha Leikai in Kakching district.

According to reports, Anjali had been missing since around 11:30 am on May 23.

Her body was first noticed floating in the Singjapokpi canal on June 6, following which a team from Sekmai Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information. However, the body could not be recovered immediately due to strong water currents. It was later recovered after Leimakhong Police Station informed Sekmai Police.

Following the completion of legal formalities and the post-mortem examination at RIMS, the body was released to the family for the last rites.

The deceased is survived by one daughter and one son.
