As part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District Administration, Jiribam, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, Jiribam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), organised a bike rally under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah campaign today.
Held under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Viksit Bharat ki Pehchaan,” the rally commenced from Jiribam Bazar and concluded at the DC Office Complex, carrying a strong message against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, Arvind Hanglem, and Commandant of 48 Battalion CRPF, Shiv Ramakrishna, in the presence of officials from the district administration, police, CRPF and other stakeholders.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Shiv Ramakrishna said drug abuse remains one of the most serious challenges confronting both the country and its younger generation. He noted that the problem is particularly significant in the northeastern region, where illegal cultivation and cross-border trafficking continue to pose major concerns.
He stated that the Government of India has, in recent years, intensified efforts to combat drug-related crimes and create awareness about the harmful consequences of substance abuse. The bike rally, he said, was organised to spread awareness among the public, especially the youth, and encourage collective action against the drug menace.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, he observed that effectively tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking would contribute to building a safer, healthier and more peaceful society.
The rally aimed to sensitise citizens about the dangers of narcotics and reinforce the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which seeks to create a drug-free India through awareness, prevention and community engagement.
