Ukhrul, June 7:
Amid the continuing hardships caused by the ongoing conflict in Manipur, the Core Committee on Relief and Rehabilitation, Manipur (CCRRM) has emerged as a beacon of hope for thousands of affected villagers across the hill districts, carrying out an extensive humanitarian mission since February this year.
Working tirelessly and often under challenging circumstances, CCRRM has been reaching remote and conflict-affected villages with relief materials, medicines, and essential supplies. According to senior CCRRM functionary R. Shinglai, the committee has remained committed to serving victims and volunteers who have been silently enduring immense suffering since violence erupted on February 7.
“After gathering authentic information from the ground, we mobilized whatever resources we could, including contributions from well-wishers, and launched relief missions to the most affected areas,” Shinglai stated.
Over the past several months, CCRRM teams have covered dozens of villages across the hills of Manipur. Relief assistance has been delivered to villages including Litan, Laho, Kharan, Thawai, Sinakeithei, Leiram Phungka, Ireng, Puiluang, Makhan, and several other settlements. The committee has also extended support to volunteers and members of the Tangkhul Naga Foothill Organisation (TNFO), who have been actively engaged in community service and security-related duties.
The relief efforts have included the distribution of food items, medicines, drinking water, fruit juice, and other daily necessities. During one of the missions, members of the Sekmai Meira Paibi joined hands with CCRRM volunteers in a remarkable display of solidarity. The committee also received cooperation from a former Minister and MLA from Khurai Assembly Constituency, who contributed relief materials for women volunteers and conflict victims.
Beyond humanitarian aid, CCRRM has also assisted in the restoration of critical infrastructure. One notable intervention was the repair of the vital road connecting Ireng Naga village. Following an assessment of the damaged route, the committee provided machinery support and fuel supplies, enabling successful completion of the repair work and restoring an important lifeline for local residents.
In another significant outreach, a CCRRM delegation led by Convenor Yazing Vicisy Shimray, along with Finance Committee member Milan Gangmei and Secretary Poudin Riamei, visited a Rongmei Naga village in Churachandpur district, popularly known as the Loktak Project area. The team distributed relief materials and interacted with local youths who have been safeguarding the village and maintaining peace amid uncertain times.
The committee also visited women volunteers stationed at Mahadev, where essential supplies were handed over. During the visit, security personnel reportedly informed the team of possible combing operations in the area, highlighting the fragile security situation prevailing in many parts of the state.
Led by Convenor Yazing Vicisy Shimray and Secretary Poudin Riamei, CCRRM continues its humanitarian journey across conflict-ridden regions, demonstrating resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to standing with the people during one of Manipur’s most challenging periods.
