All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has expressed strong concern over the continued disappearance of six Naga men allegedly abducted along with 12 others, including a two-year-old child, by suspected SoO Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13.
In a statement issued by its Information and Publicity Cell, ANSAM criticised a statement by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) claiming that it had no information regarding the six missing men, alleging that survivors who were later released had witnessed the six being separated and taken elsewhere by the abductors.
The student body demanded that the six abducted men be produced immediately, dead or alive, and called for the release of their bodies if they were no longer alive. It warned that continued uncertainty over their fate could intensify public anger and suspicion.
ANSAM further alleged that the chief of Leilon village and local residents could not evade accountability as the abduction took place under their watch. It also held the chairman of UPF (KNF-P) responsible for ensuring the safe release of the abducted men, alleging that the militant group operated under his command structure.
The organisation urged the Manipur Government, including the Chief Minister and the Home Department, to intervene seriously and ensure justice and public confidence.
ANSAM also raised concerns over the alleged failure of the nearby Leimakhong Army Camp to prevent or effectively respond to the incident and claimed that the continued spread of misinformation by certain Kuki groups was aggravating tensions in the state.
The organisation appealed to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to take immediate action, warning that continued silence or inaction would amount to failure in discharging constitutional and humanitarian responsibilities.
