Manipur Yoga Society on Thursday organised a flag-off ceremony at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport for yoga athletes representing India at the 11th World Yogasana Championship 2026 to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from May 16 to 19.
A contingent comprising 13 athletes from Manipur, along with one official, will participate in the international championship organised under the aegis of the World Yoga Sports Federation.
The contingent was flagged off by Dr. Basudev Singh, President of the Manipur Yoga Society and Vice President of the All India Yoga Culture Federation. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed confidence that the athletes would perform well and bring laurels to the state and the country.
The society also informed that the All India Yoga Culture Federation has approved the proposal to host the 38th National Yogasana Championship 2026 in Imphal from October 2 to 4. The championship will be organised in collaboration with the federation.
According to the organisers, permission has also been granted for the use of Khuman Lampak Main Indoor Stadium and hostel facilities to accommodate athletes and officials expected to participate in the national event.
