Excise employees announce indefinite cease-work strike from May 18

The All Manipur Excise Employees Welfare Association has announced an indefinite cease-work strike beginning May 18, alleging failure of the Government to fulfil its commitment regarding implementation of the Revised Pay (ROP), 2016 for Excise employees.
In a statement issued today, the association said repeated requests, representations and assurances from the concerned authorities had failed to yield any concrete action on the long-pending demand, leading to growing dissatisfaction among employees of the Excise Department.
The association stated that the strike would continue until the Government takes concrete steps to implement the promised Revised Pay (ROP), 2016 with notional effect from January 1, 2024.
Apart from the pay revision demand, the association also sought extension of ration money and the benefit of 13 months’ pay to Excise personnel on par with Police personnel.
The association expressed hope that the Government would take immediate and positive action to resolve the matter in the interest of employees of the Excise Department.
