The Lungreizang Village chairman, Duanjilung Lucas Kamei, was killed due to road accident on NH-37 in Jiribam district.
According to reports, the incident occurred on April 28 at around 6:30 PM, when the chairman was riding his Scooty on NH-37 and collided with a piled-up land obstruction on the roadway at Chandrapur.
For the accident, the Lungreizang Village authority held Apex Company responsible, alleging gross negligence in the construction work on NH-37. The village authority stated that the lack of proper safety measures and road management during the construction led to the fatal incident.
He was immediately taken to Silchar Medical; however, he succumbed to his injuries and died on May 6. On Thursday, his body was brought back to his home for the funeral rites.
Talking to Imphal Times,Tahemang Panmei, Chairman of the Rongmei Naga Council,Jiribam area, stated that the Apex Company, which is undertaking construction work on NH-37, has piled large quantities of soil on the roadway at Chandrapur, Jiribam.
He said that since there was no proper diversion signage, a serious accident occurred, resulting in the death of the village chairman.
Panmei further alleged that the Apex Company was responsible for such negligence and demanded that the company compensate the family of the deceased.
He also appealed to the District Administration of Jiribam to issue strict directions to the assigned road construction team to ensure that such negligence is not repeated in the future, so as to prevent further accidents.
