Miscreant lobs grenade, fire gunshot; Protest staged

Unknown miscreants lobbed a hand grenade into the residential compound of Dr. Salam Arbin Singh (65), son of late S. Nabakumar Singh, at Langjing Achouba Maning Leikai in Imphal West district, and simultaneously fired a gunshot at the gate at around 8 pm on May 4.
According to CCTV footage, the assailants arrived in a car and hurled the grenade from inside the vehicle into the doctor’s compound. They also fired a shot at the gate before fleeing the scene.
The incident triggered strong resentment among local residents. Members of the Meira Paibi groups in the area staged a sit-in protest at Langjing Achouba, condemning the act.
The protest, jointly organised by the Langjing Achouba Apunba Club and Meira Paibi groups, denounced the grenade attack and firing of gunshots, terming it an act that instills fear among the public. A protester stated that such incidents terrorise the locality and disturb normal life.
The Meira Paibis urged those responsible to clarify the matter at the earliest.
