The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has rejected claims made by Kuki refugee groups that the so-called German Road and Tiger Road serve as “lifelines” for their community, stating that such assertions are misleading and ignore the historical and customary rights of the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga people.
In a statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the ZUF said the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga community does not recognise or permit the construction or use of these roads within its traditional and ancestral territory without proper consent and lawful authorisation. The outfit maintained that any infrastructure development in the area must respect established customary ownership and indigenous rights.
The statement expressed serious concern over the existence of the roads, alleging that they are widely perceived to facilitate illegal activities, including drug trafficking, arms smuggling and the movement of undocumented immigrants. According to the ZUF, such activities pose a direct threat to indigenous land, security and social stability in the region.
The ZUF also urged Central and State security forces to maintain strict neutrality and professionalism while carrying out their duties. It cautioned that any form of nexus or association with Kuki underground groups would be unacceptable and could further escalate tensions, especially during armed confrontations.
Reiterating its stand against illegal activities, the ZUF stated its firm opposition to poppy cultivation within Zeliangrong Inpui territory. It warned that individuals found involved in poppy cultivation or harvesting would face strict action.
The statement said the Zeliangrong United Front remains committed to protecting indigenous rights and ancestral land, while pursuing lasting peace through lawful and constitutional means.
