The book titled Colonial Records of the Kuki Raids in Manipur and their Impact (1878–1914), authored by Yumnam Rajeshwor Singh, was released at a function held at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
The release programme was attended by Dr RK Nimai, retired IAS, who graced the occasion as chief guest, while Professor W Nabakumar, retired Dean of the School of Human and Environmental Sciences, Manipur University, attended as President.
The book was introduced by Dr Malem Ningthouja, Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Dhanamanjuri University, following which it was formally released. Scholarly reviews of the publication were presented by Dr Oinam Daniel of the Department of History, Oriental College, and Dr Michael Samjetsabam of the Department of Philosophy, Dhanamanjuri University. The reviewers noted that the book brings together a range of colonial-era records relating to the Kuki raids and examines their political and social impact on Manipur during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Speaking on the occasion, author Yumnam Rajeshwor Singh, a war historian, said that he began accessing archival materials at the National Archives of India in 2015 and has since collected a large number of historical documents. He stated that the present volume is a compilation of those documents and expressed the hope that the book would serve as a useful reference for scholars and students engaged in the study of Manipur’s history.
The programme concluded with a book discussion session, during which the author interacted with invited guests and participants.
