Kisan Divas observed with Seed Distribution at Heirok

National Farmers’ Day (Loumising-gi Numit) was observed at Heirok with a seed distribution programme organised by Prem Dhara on day before yesterday at its office located at Heirok Part II Bazar. As part of the observance, various seasonal agricultural seeds were distributed to local farmers to support ongoing and upcoming cultivation activities.
National Farmers’ Day is observed across the country to mark the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the 5th Prime Minister of India, in recognition of his contribution to the agricultural sector and to honour farmers for their role in nation-building.
The Kisan Divas programme was attended by Dr Thokchom Robindro Singh, former Deputy Director, Extension Department, Central Agricultural University, and Nameirakpam Sunil Singh, Deputy Director, Department of Horticulture, Manipur, along with other dignitaries. The programme was presided over by Thokchom Ibohal Singh, Trustee and Thoubal District President of Prem Dhara Trust.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Thokchom Robindro Singh said that National Farmers’ Day acknowledges the tireless efforts and sacrifices of farmers. He appreciated Prem Dhara for distributing agricultural inputs and noted the organisation’s involvement in developmental activities. He stated that while modern farming practices and mechanisation have improved productivity, challenges such as land fragmentation and limited expansion opportunities persist. He stressed the need for proper planning, timely decisions, efficient resource use, and wider adoption of scientific and sustainable farming methods.
Speaking on the occasion, Thokchom Ibohal Singh said Prem Dhara was established in memory of late Khundrakpam Ongbi Nungshi Devi with the objective of serving society through welfare initiatives. Prem Dhara Managing Trustee Binanda Khundrakpam outlined upcoming activities, including monthly assistance to elderly widows and skill development programmes for youth and women.
During the programme, farmers interacted with experts on crop management, soil health, pest control, and advanced farming techniques. Agricultural inputs were distributed to 40 farmers, including potato, pea, and coriander seeds, while a sprinkler pump set was also handed over to farmers of Heirok.
