Newly appointed National People’s Party (NPP) Vice President Irengbam Hemochandra Singh arrived in Imphal today, pledging to serve the people diligently and strengthen the party’s presence in the Northeast. Speaking to the media, he expressed gratitude to NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma for entrusting him with the national role, describing the party leadership as “visionary” and capable of bringing meaningful change.
The NPP announced Hemochandra’s appointment for the 2025–2028 tenure, effective immediately, under Article 11 of the party constitution. The move reflects the party’s focus on promoting experienced leaders to key national positions.
A seasoned political figure, Hemochandra is a five-time MLA from Singjamei and has held several ministerial portfolios. In 2010, he became the youngest Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, elected unanimously with support from both ruling and opposition benches.
Formerly a long-time member of the Indian National Congress, Hemochandra resigned in March 2024 citing loss of confidence in the state leadership, paving the way for his transition to the NPP. In his new role, he is expected to play a pivotal part in strengthening the party’s organisational structure and influence across the Northeast.
