KSA celebrates 20th Foundation Day, Voices concern for IDPs, student welfare, and lasting peace

The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) observed its 20th Foundation Day today with events at Khulem Leikai Community Hall, Naoremthong Leirak in Imphal West, and at the P.W.D. Guest House in Jiribam. The occasions highlighted the association’s commitment to student welfare, the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the pursuit of lasting peace in the state.
Speaking at the Imphal West function, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda strongly condemned recent forceful actions against protestors near the Sangai Festival venue. He criticized the use of tear gas and other coercive measures against locals who had gathered to express concerns over the continuation of the festival amid ongoing unrest. Bidyananda described the incident as deeply unfortunate and warned that such actions could severely affect students, women, and children.
While acknowledging the festival’s economic benefits, Bidyananda emphasized that “development should not come at the cost of suffering and displacement.” He also called for a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, urging the government to address the root causes of unrest and ensure safety and justice for affected communities.
The programme observed a two-minute silence in honor of those impacted by the continuing turmoil. Former KSA presidents Thongam Ajitkanta, Yumnam Pradipkumar, Thangjam Premananda, Moirangthem Lakshman, and Ningthoujam Chetan attended the function, reinforcing the association’s call for peace and social responsibility.
In Jiribam, the KSA District Council celebrated the Foundation Day with a ceremonial candle lighting by social worker N. Budhachandra Singh, who also served as Chief Guest. K. Somorjit Singh, President of KSA Jiribam District Council, presided over the event, joined by Th. Jini Devi, President of JIMWAK; K. Ibemnungshi Devi, President of SWA; and G. Ibohal Sharma, President of IPSA Jiribam.
Budhachandra Singh highlighted the broader role of student organizations in shaping community leadership and fostering social cohesion.
