Koireng led UNLF raises concern over misrepresentation on social media

The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) led by Koireng has expressed serious concern over what it termed as attempts to portray the armed revolutionary group as a reactionary force on various social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.
In a statement issued by M. Shak-Hen, Secretary of Publicity, Central Committee of the Koireng-led UNLF, the outfit stated that such “narrow-minded and reactionary narratives” portraying the organization as representing a single community could potentially lead to the balkanization of Manipur. The group said the press statement was issued to remind the younger generation of the UNLF’s founding ideology and political stand.
“A “Divide and Rule” approach has been pursued by the Government of India over years to suppress the revolutionary movement in Manipur, and it now has evolved to what the outfit described as “Divide and Destroy.”
It further alleged that since May 3, 2023, the Government of India has been facilitating the entry and settlement of a large number of Kuki people from Myanmar in areas surrounding the valley, which has, in turn, displaced over 60,000 individuals and rendered them internally displaced.
The statement brought out the outfit’s belief in the “Idea of Manipur” where the state is a nation of communities, each with its own culture and tradition, living together in the hills and valley. It identified the Meitei as the largest community but maintained that the Meiteis are one among the many communities that make up the collective identity called Manipur.
Reaffirming its ideological stand, the outfit stated it believes in people’s democracy and respects all communities in Manipur. It made it clear that the UNLF does not represent any single ethnic group and urged the public to stop spreading what it called false narratives portraying the organization as a reactionary or communal force.
