MLA Biswajit inaugurates second floor of SWC Building at Khongman

Thongam Biswajit, MLA of Thongju Assembly Constituency, today inaugurated the newly constructed second floor of the Social Workers’ Congress (SWC) building at Khongman. The project was taken up under the Local Area Development Fund.
Addressing the gathering, Biswajit said that development works in Thongju are being undertaken in close consultation with senior citizens to ensure that the benefits reach all sections of the community. He remarked that real progress can only be achieved when the welfare of the collective is prioritized over individual gain.
Recalling his early initiatives, the MLA noted that after being elected for the first time, he had started the construction of several clubs and community halls to strengthen social infrastructure in the constituency. While some projects are yet to be completed, he assured that work is underway to finish them at the earliest. He further pointed out that the existing community hall located in front of the SWC building has become outdated and would soon be replaced by a new structure.
Highlighting broader developmental efforts, Biswajit stated that the Thongju Assembly Constituency comprises seven Gram Panchayats, and equitable development across all of them is essential. He added that during his tenure as Power Minister, the first-of-its-kind 2×10 MVA, 33/11 KV Gas Insulated Sub-Station was inaugurated at Canchipur to strengthen the power sector. He also mentioned the development of a hockey turf ground at Akampat, recognizing the contribution of Khongman, Bashikhong, Kshetri Leikai, and Uchakon in producing talented sportspersons. He further underlined the importance of human resource development, noting that pilot projects in education have already been implemented for students in the constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, SWC President Athokpam Birendra expressed gratitude to the MLA for supporting the development of the organization’s infrastructure. He said the new floor would provide much-needed space for community-based programmes and welfare activities. Former Khongman Pradhan, Moirangthem Nungshirei Devi, also lauded the project and called upon residents to make effective use of the facility for the upliftment of youth and women in the area.
The function was attended by local leaders, club representatives, and residents, who welcomed the development as a positive step toward strengthening social welfare initiatives in Khongman.
