A late-night raid conducted by members of Khurai Konsam Leikai Apunba Nupi Lup at New Checkon resulted in 13 persons, including both men and women, being caught red-handed while allegedly engaging in gambling and other immoral activities.
According to a report submitted to Porompat Police Station, the incident took place around midnight of September 1 and the early hours of September 2, when the Apunba Nupi Lup received information about a gathering involving card gambling and indecent activities inside a house at New Checkon.
Acting swiftly, the Meira Paibi group raided the location and found nine men and four women inside the residence of one Bimola Gurumayum. Some of the individuals were reportedly found in a compromising state. The accused were immediately rounded up and handed over to Porompat Police.
The individuals apprehended have been identified as Waikhom Santoshkumar (43) of W. Biramani of Meirum Makha Leikai, Roshan Thoudam (40) of Th. Mani Singh of Uripok, Naorem Roshan (42) of Kakching Lamkhai, Huiren Shashikanta (20) of Bamon Kampu, Rebika Khumanthiem (29) of Kakching Lamkhai, Subon Singh of Heirok Bazar, Nongtembam Thasana (34) of L. N. Sarat of Lamphel Yaipha Leikai, Dipali Kangjam (40) of Kangjam Nodiyachand of Nongmeibung, Anju Thingbaijam (50) of Rajmani Thingbaijam of Palace Compound, Laishram Roshni (30) of Tombir of Kakching, Laishram Abenao (40) of Tombir of Kakching, Sanathoi Miatam (39) of M. Chaoba of Thoubal Irong, and Ningsem Ashalata (49) of Ningthombi of Moidangpok.
Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered against the 13 individuals, and investigations are underway.
The Apunba Nupi Lup stated that the raid was part of its continuous efforts to curb immoral activities and gambling in the locality.
