Suspect linked to extortion and arms trafficking apprehended at Moreh

In a major operation against criminal networks in the border region of Manipur, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with state police and paramilitary forces, apprehended a suspected individual involved in extortion and illegal arms trafficking linked to VVEZ. The joint operation was conducted on August 26 in the general area of Haolenphai, a border locality near Moreh in Tengnoupal district.
According to official sources, the action was launched in the early hours of the day following credible inputs regarding the presence of the suspect. Troops of the Assam Rifles carried out a cordon and search operation, conducting house-to-house searches in the locality. The operation was executed with precision and restraint, culminating in the apprehension of the suspect from the identified location.
During the search, security forces recovered a mobile phone from the individual, which is suspected to contain incriminating digital evidence related to extortion and arms smuggling activities. Officials said the recovery is likely to provide crucial leads in uncovering the nexus of criminal elements operating in the sensitive border belt.
The apprehended person, along with the recovered mobile device, was handed over to Pallel Police Station in Kakching district on August 27 for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
