Three persons identified as namely Salam Jayenta, M Marconi Singh and Heikrujam Nongyai Nongdenkhomba in association with A Bidhur Trust Foundation, Babupara distributed relief materials to flood affected victims of Tentha Mathak Leikai on Wednesday. The village which has a total household of 110 with population of around 1500 was severely affected by the recent devastating flood. A family was left homeless as the house was completely wiped away during the recent flood. Students of the village still could not attend their classes as most of them are struggling for survival after the devastation. The villagers presently faced problem of drinking water too besides the daily edible requirement. Villagers said so far they get only 1.5 kg of rice from the local pradhan. Local MLA of the region had provided drinking water at the time when he visited to take stock of the situation.
“Till then no assistance has been provided either from the government or local MLA”, said a villager.
The distributed items includes, rice, dal, salt, drinking water, books and other edible items.
Meanwhile, Volunteers of Youth Volunteers’ Union (YVU), Thoubal has distributed relief materials to flood affected peoples under four districts- Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Chandel.
According to Chief Organiser of YVU, AK Tikendra said that under the financial support of Sir Dorabjee TATA Trust Mumbai the union has conducted a survey at the flood affected areas. Relief materials are being distributed at different parts of the affected areas. Essential materials were distributed to the poor families of Upokpi Khunou, Naorem and Wangoo under Bishnupur district on Aug 26.
Under this programme medicines for domestic cattle were also distributed to 317 families under Bishnupur district, said a release from the Union.
Earlier too the volunteers of the organisation had extended help to people of Joumol in Chandel district.
