The National Mental Health Programme – Tele MANAS Manipur, in collaboration with the College Development Council and Ya_All: The Youth Network, organised a Mental Health Awareness-cum-Counselling Programme for colleges under Manipur University with the aim of promoting mental well-being among students.
The programme sought to create awareness about mental health, address stigma, and encourage early help-seeking behaviour among young people.
The event was attended by Dr. M.A. Sabir, Psychiatrist and District Nodal Officer (I/East), District Mental Health Programme, as Chief Guest, and Dr. S. Ranjit Singh, Principal of Oriental College, as President.
Resource persons for the programme included Dr. Karishma Yumnam, Clinical Psychologist, Tele MANAS Manipur, and Bidyalakshmi Devi, Counsellor, Ya_All. Counselling sessions were conducted by Karam Sangita Devi, Psychiatric Nurse, State Tele MANAS Cell, and Linthoi Devi, Counsellor, State Tele MANAS Cell.
In his address, Dr. M.A. Sabir provided an overview of mental health and common mental health disorders, underlining the importance of early intervention, strong support systems, and timely access to professional care. This was followed by an interactive session led by Dr. Karishma Yumnam, during which students actively engaged and shared their concerns.
