IDPs leave Khurukhul relief camp alleging harassment by camp coordinator

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter at Khurukhul Mandop Yumpham Relief Camp under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district reportedly vacated the camp late last night, following allegations of verbal harassment by the camp coordinator. The IDPs, numbering around 120 including women and children, claimed that the coordinator used unofficial and abusive language toward them, prompting their decision to leave the camp.
After leaving the relief camp, the displaced persons took shelter in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Office of Imphal West at around 10.30  pm yesterday. The group demanded the immediate replacement of the current camp coordinator, identified as RK Sanahal.
The IDPs, originally from Sapermeina, remained outside the DC office through the night, waiting for an audience with district authorities. They were eventually able to meet with the concerned officials at around 7:30 AM today. The District administration authority assured to look into the matters.
Speaking to the authorities in the presence of media persons, one of the IDPs stated that they no longer wished to return to the relief camp if the harassment continued, especially at a time when government support and beneficiary entitlements had not been provided to them.
According to their statement, the IDPs had endured constant scolding, humiliation, and abusive remarks from the camp coordinator, who allegedly created a hostile environment within the relief camp. Unable to endure further, the displaced persons decided to leave the camp premises and stage a sit-in in front of the DC office.
As of now, the IDPs are still camped at the location, expressing deep disappointment over their treatment and hoping the district administration will take swift action to address their grievances and ensure a safer, more dignified environment for them.
