The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with First Lady Jyoti Bhalla, visited the State Orchidarium at Khonghampat, managed by the State Forest Department. Upon their arrival, they were received by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Anurag Bajpai, and other senior officials of the Department.
During the visit, it was reported that the Governor and the First Lady launched the plantation activity for the season by planting Heirangoi (Garcinia spp.), a wild fruit known for its high ecological, cultural, and food value. After the plantation, the Governor reportedly toured the Orchid Display House, walked along the trek route to observe the flowering of rare and endangered orchids, and inspected the Ground Orchid Plots.
It was also mentioned that the Governor and the First Lady watched a film produced by the Forest Department on “Orchids of Manipur,” as well as another film highlighting the rejuvenation of dried natural springs in the Langol Reserved Forest, a project aimed at supporting the population of Kameng village, undertaken by the Central Forest Division, Imphal. The Governor was said to have expressed appreciation for the Department’s efforts and advised them to replicate similar initiatives across the state.
