Imphal, Jan 14:
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, during the Sambhidhan Gaurav Abhiyan event held today at Thambal Shanglen, the BJP Head Office, has expressed sharp criticism of Manipur’s two MPs for their alleged silence on crucial issues like the Free Movement Regime (FMR), border fencing, and illegal immigration. “They do not speak up in Parliament. Why did people vote for them? Why did people give them their mandate? The people should answer this,” the Chief Minister said, urging greater accountability from elected representatives.
CM Biren also called on BJP karyakartas to take a stronger stand. “Our karyakartas are too scared. Those who are educated and patriotic support BJP, but they must speak up and advocate for the issues that matter,” he emphasized.
Praising Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister highlighted their significant contributions to promoting constitutional values, crediting Modi’s initiatives with fostering a deeper appreciation of the Constitution.
He further addressed reasonable restrictions under Article 19 of the Constitution, stressing the balance between free speech and responsibility. On the refugee issue, he reaffirmed the government’s efforts to deport refugees and prevent demographic invasion, criticizing others for engaging only in rhetoric.
In a pointed remark about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, CM Biren commented on his attire during Constitution-related events. “Wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and chappal, he holds the Constitution but lacks the decorum to dress appropriately,” he said.
The Sambhidhan Gaurav Abhiyan event held at Thambal Shanglen is being held, according to CM Biren, as a means to reinforce the BJP’s commitment to constitutional integrity, national security, and strong leadership in addressing critical issues. The event saw the presence of senior BJP leaders, including veteran politician Th. Chaoba and several activists of the party.
