85th Nupi Lan Day observed in Jiribam

The 85th Nupi Lan Remembrance Day was commemorated with reverence and respect at the JIMPAL auditorium hall in Jiribam. The event, organized by a coalition of local organizations including JIMPAL, AJMP, WASED, JIMWAK, WWOK IKAL, and AMAWOVA, brought together community members to honor the sacrifices made by women in the struggle against colonial oppression.
The observance began with the Chief Guest lighting a ceremonial flame, symbolizing the enduring spirit of those courageous women who laid down their lives in the fight for justice and democratic rights. This poignant moment set the tone for a day dedicated to remembrance and reflection.
Among the distinguished attendees were prominent figures such as N. Budhachandra Singh, a well-known social worker from Jiribam; Thomash Thokchom, Additional Superintendent of Police; and Longjam Bimola Devi, President of Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL). Other notable leaders included Sagapam (O) Susila Devi, President of All Jiribam Meira Paibi (AJMP); Naorem (O) Nivarani Devi, President of the Woman Association for Socio-Economic Development (WASED); Thangjam (O) Jini Devi, President of the Jiribam Woman Association of Kangleipak (JIMWAK); Haobam (O) Thoibi Devi, President of the Women Welfare Organisation Kangleipak (WWOK); and Thokchom Priyadasani Devi, President of the All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), who served as chief guest, president and honoured guests.
The day featured insightful speeches from invitees such as Mutum Maipaksana Mangang and Arun Kumar Mangang, who addressed the significance of the Nupi Lan movement in the context of Manipur’s ongoing ethnic conflicts. Their reflections highlighted the relevance of the Nupi Lan struggle in today’s socio-political landscape, urging the community to unite in addressing contemporary challenges.
