Imphal, Oct 26:
At the National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal, students are raising serious health concerns due to ongoing water contamination issues in the campus hostels. In an anonymous complaint addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, students detailed an unsettling account of foul-smelling, visibly dark water being supplied for bathing and daily use. Despite multiple complaints, the students allege a lack of action from the administration, leaving their concerns unaddressed and their well-being at risk.
Several senior students who inspected the water tank area reported disturbing findings of poor sanitation, with the tanks appearing neglected and possibly the main source of the contamination. The administrative response, however, appears to have been dismissive. Despite repeated reports to hostel wardens and appeals for action, students say that nothing has been done to address the persistent problem, highlighting a troubling pattern of administrative inaction.
The effects of the contaminated water are apparent: students report experiencing severe skin reactions, including rashes and allergies. Photographic evidence of the water tanks and the affected skin conditions has been provided, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Students have now requested an urgent inspection of the water tanks and pipelines and demanded regular maintenance measures to ensure safe water supply. Yet, frustration continues to build as they await tangible action from the administration.
