Imphal, Oct 24:
The World Human Rights Protection Organisation (WHRPO) organized an event to observe United Nations Day today at the Press Club Majorkhul in Imphal, Manipur. The event featured several distinguished guests and speakers who emphasized the importance of human rights and unity among the people of Manipur.
The Chief Guest, Thangjam Ningtamba Meitei, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Human Rights and Development, highlighted the need for collective action and punctuality in efforts to address pressing issues. “If there is no unity, then there cannot be any work. We must make a commitment to engage in public discussions,” he stated, underscoring the importance of collaboration among government officials, MLAs, and community leaders in navigating the recent conflicts in the region.
Moirangthem Sorojini Leima, President of WHRPO and Universal Mothers’ Organisation (UMO), echoed similar sentiments, urging the community to focus on future progress rather than becoming mired in past grievances. “There are many issues pertaining to human rights in Manipur that need to be addressed, and it is crucial for us to organize programs like this to amplify our voices,” she remarked.
