Imphal, July 7:
Imagi Meira has issued an urgent call for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who are currently in Delhi to return to Manipur within three days to convene an emergency assembly session. This plea comes amidst escalating tensions and ongoing violence in the region.
Speaking to the press, Th. Sujata of Imagi Meira highlighted the critical need for unity and decisive action from both ruling and opposition parties. “On June 30, a rally organized by women and mothers decided that the ruling and opposition should come together for an emergency session,” she stated. “We went to meet MLA Khemchand, and our memorandum was received by his wife. We also met with the speakers and various MLAs and ministers from both sides who received our memorandum.”
She stated that they have managed to secure an appointment with the Chief Minister at 6 PM, and there was a meeting with the CM . Regarding the meeting, she stated that “people went to meet the Chief Minister, and they have stated that he will do the needful and they will be united.”
However, she added, “we cannot meet many MLAs from the ruling party as they are in Delhi. Many MLAs have not been seen here for almost a year since the violence began. Within three days, they should come here. An emergency session should be initiated.”
Th. Sujata underlined the severe toll the situation is taking on the local population. “Our suffering has reached another level. A kid from a relief camp committed suicide. People come out to face the enemy and die here, but MLAs have been in Delhi for almost a year.”
