Chandel, Feb 20:

A Field Day on the cultivation of Rapeseed-Mustard variety Pusa Mustard – 27 was conducted today at Lamphoupasna Village, Chandel, marking a success in the promotion of oilseed cultivation in the region. The event, organized under the Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLD) on Oilseeds for the Rabi season 2023-24, saw enthusiastic participation from farmers and agricultural experts alike.
Dr. A. Ameeta Devi, Senior Scientist & Head of ICAR – KVK Chandel, and Bs. Lumhring Anal, Chief of Lamphoupasna Village, presided over the event, underscoring the collaborative efforts between research institutions and local communities in advancing agricultural practices.
In her keynote address, Dr. Khumlo Levish, Nodal Officer of CFLD, highlighted the significant achievements of the program, covering 20 hectares across the district. She emphasized the promising performance of Rapeseed-Mustard variety Pusa Mustard – 27, with an average seed yield of 15.35 quintals per hectare and an impressive oil content of 41.7%. Dr. A. Ameeta Devi commended the farmers for their active participation in the CFLD program, emphasizing the variety’s short maturity period of 118 days, which enables double cropping and enhances income opportunities for farmers.
The event also featured an interactive session between scientists and farmers, providing valuable insights into cultivation techniques, plant breeding, horticulture, home science, and agricultural engineering. A field visit to Kl. Rungkham Anal’s Rapeseed-Mustard field further enriched the learning experience for attendees.
As part of the Field Day program, rabi vegetable crops were distributed to farmers, enhancing their agricultural diversification efforts. A total of 52 farmers, including staff from KVK Chandel, actively participated in the event, reflecting the growing interest and engagement in promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
