The Southern Tangkhul Students ’ Union on Saturday called an indefinite bandh in Yaingangpokpi to Chadong Road, Kangkum to Wangli Road, Nongdam Road, and Sikibung to Louphung Road from today onwards as the state government turned a deaf ear to their requests.
At a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, President of the Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union Yarchuiso Kashung said the Union had submitted memorandums on November 02 and 06 to the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and the concerned Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister to enquire the road condition of the road projects. He said the four projects have never been executed, but on the contrary, the constructions of these roads were shown as completed as per displayed boards of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The Union submitted a memorandum again to the Chief Minister and the concerned Minister on February 02, requesting to take necessary actions by conducting field examination for the works relating to the four road packages.
The memorandum read “the roads under packages MN09230 PMGSY –II for the construction of Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong (10 km) road, MN09205 for the construction of Kangkum to Wangli Road (15 km), MN09158 for the construction of road at Nongdam and MN09174 for the construction of road Sikibung to Louphong were shown completed as per the bard displayed at Yaingangpkpi, Kangkum, Nongdam and Sikibung respectively. However, the said works have never been executed as can be seen if the same has been examined by doing field verification”.
Further, the memorandum mentioned that the works have never been executed by the concerned contractors by taking undue advantage of having a maintenance period without execution of the same. The said roads still remained as virgin soil and remained untouched by sprinkling some pebbles in some areas.
