The state government of Manipur has not yet given permission for the launching function of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. The Yatra is scheduled to begin on January 14 and will cover a distance of 6,713 km in 15 states, touching upon 110 districts and 100 Lok Sabha Constituencies.
One day after the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) launched a sticker campaign for the journey at the state Congress head office on BT Road, Imphal, state congress leaders met with Chief Secretary of Manipur Dr. Vineet Joshi at Old Secretariat Imphal today. They urged for permission to be granted for the launching function of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace compound. The MPCC applied for permission on January 2, but there has been no response from the government authority regarding whether or not the permission will be granted.
“We applied for permission for the launching function of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 2 through the Imphal East district administration. Later, the matter was forwarded to the Home Department and the Chief Secretary of Manipur,” said MPCC President K. Meghachandra in front of the Old Secretariat office in Imphal. He added that over 30 national leaders, including the AICC President, Chief Ministers, Ex-Chief Ministers, and Congress MPs from across the country, will be attending the launching of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
“We need to prepare a stage to accommodate all the leaders for the launching function,” Meghachandra said. He added that with the launching function set for January 14, there are only a few days left. Accompanying the MPCC President are AICC in Charge of Manipur Girish Chodankar, MPCC leaders Gaikhangam, Kh. Ratankumar, among others.
On being asked on the reply by the Chief Secretary, Meghachandra said that he will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister of Manipur. He stated that the Yatra (Marathon March) is a peace march and they will not use many party flags. “If the government does not want to give permission, they should let us know so that we can make preparations,” the MPCC President said.
He also mentioned that if the peace march, attended by various national leaders from across the nation, is successful, it will send a message that peace has been somewhat restored in the state of Manipur.
