Imphal, July 3:
International Gorkha Forum has shown serious concern to the numerous instances of continuous extortion in cash and kind from the Gorkha community of Manipur by the Kuki militants.
A statement by the International Gorkha Forum based in London, while expressing strong condemnation to the act of extortion, loot, harassment, impositions and forced donations to the Gorkhas of Manipur by Kuki militants has warned the Kuki militants of serious consequences.
“It shall be a considered opinion and a conclusion of the Gorkhas that the Kuki militants have crossed the reasonable limit and are going against the spirit of mutual respect and peaceful co-existence and that our people restraints and neutrality in the prevailing conflict situation should not be construed as our weakness in any sense”, Veeshmaraj Bogati, President of the International Gorkha Forum said in the statement.
The Gorkha Community said that such an act of the Kuku militants is considered as a direct threat to the neutrality of the Gorkhas in the present situation of Manipur and is not a good sign of harmonious living. Brutality in any form has no place in the present world, it added.
The statement said that the unfortunate incident of violence that broke out on May 3 between the Meiteis and the Kukis has caused grave concern to the Gorkhas equally. The Gorkhas have been showing solidarity to the loss of precious lives and valuable properties and for displaced people of both communities with utmost shock and reverence and sharing the pains.
“However, the Kuki militants operating in their areas have been making impositions of varied degrees and forcibly making demands which are unbearable and unacceptable to the poor and innocent Gorkha people residing in the hill districts”, the statement said.
“The wound is still afresh when in 2012, the Congress Government deleted 4(four)Gram Panchayats viz Koubru Leikha, Toribari, Kalapahar, and Santolabari Parsain for reason best known to the Government at the cost of the Gorkha community. Our people remained silent to the decision of the government, but today, the push has come to shove and now the Gorkhas worldwide will not remain mute spectators to the atrocities to our people in Manipur”, a statement by the International Gorkha Community.
