International human rights day observed

Various organisations of the state today observed International Human Rights Day.
The day is observed by the committee on human rights, (COHR) Manipur at Manipur Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Okendrajit Thokchom, member of COHR said such observance is important as this universal declaration of human rights is a common standard of achievement for all people and all nations. Recognition of the dignity and of the equal and in alienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
Advocate, Khaidem Mani, President, All Manipur Bar Association, Phulindro Konsam, Convenor, COHR, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, President, AMWJU, attended the observance as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Human Rights Initiative, Manipur also organised UN human rights day at the conference hall of its office at Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal.
Attending the function, Dr. N. Pramod, Professor, LMS Law College spoke on the topic of ‘international humanitarian law and Manipur situation.’ He said that both the human rights and humanitarian law are very important in a conflict state like Manipur and the people of the state must also be aware about the same. He also said the role of civil organisation is very huge in educating the people about their human rights.
L.C. Ruhinikumar, general secretary, Manipur Cultural Integration Conference and Yumnam Ratankumar, Acting Chairman, HRI also attended the function as Chief Guest and Guest of honour respectively.
