The tragic incident happen yesterday at Thoubal district , where a mother of 7 month infant died hours after Covid vaccination is a serious issue. The incident is perhaps the first of its kind in the state of Manipur even though there are report of such death at other state. When there are hue and cry over not getting Covid vaccine on one hand and when many among us are reluctant to accept the vaccination as a protective measure , the incident of a young and healthy mother after vaccination will surely create more confusion to the people on whether they should get vaccinated or not to.
For the state health department , it may have been somewhat a relief as they will now find many answer on the failure in speeding up of the vaccination as there are possibility that more people after getting the information of the incident may not turn up. Already, the health department authority had failed in sorting out a feasible mass vaccination programme with just around 5.2 lakhs people vaccinated in 6 months, when their counterpart at Tripura had managed to vaccinate over 16 lakhs people.
Since the vaccination drive began in the country including Manipur in January 16 last year, except for publicity to the people for vaccination no detail information of the benefit of the vaccination on how it will protect he people from Covid-19 has been made to public.
It was only after the media hunted and found out that each vails of Covishield can jab 10 doses. The health department authority had never let the masses known on how many hours can a vails be used to jab people after it has been opened. Experts from the immunization sectors told this media that once the vaccine has been open for used , it should be completed before 4 hours. It doesn’t take even 5 minutes to jab a shot and for 10 person it will be more than enough to complete the vails in 1 hour.
Experts also told this media that if vails opened but unable to finish up the vaccines doses than it should be wasted as it would mean more harm than saving live.
Now coming back to the young mother who died day before yesterday after getting the Covid vaccine , it worth mentioning that a proper investigation should be conducted and if there are any negligence during the vaccination (as mention above) the authority of the health department should be held responsibility.
It was however a welcoming step that the Chief Minister of Manipur had assured to probe into the matter. But unlike other this, special case should be treated with extreme scientific method.
The people should let know the cause of the death or else, the only left alternative to protect this society that the state and central government have been working days and night to make sure that maximum number of people vaccinated will go in vain.
Some experts also had stated that to some patient there is possibility of casualty or unusual illness in post vaccination. This, the expert said that around 6 % may face the music however 94% are reported to have been protected so far.
The death of the young mother was a shocking incident for all of us , and authority should revealed the truth on what went wrong. And to be precise the head of the state government should review the way the war is being fought against the Covid and review it every month.
In war time, replacing a new general , who is expert and have experienced in combating the war by unseen enemy will have protecting the people if not defeated.
