1st State-Level 9-A-Side Village Open Football Tournament kicks off at Hiyangthang

The inaugural edition of the State-Level 9-A-Side Village Open Football Tournament, 2025, organized by the Multi-Purpose Club (MPC), Hiyangthang, began yesterday at Hiyangthang Kangjeibung with a vibrant opening ceremony.
Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba attended the function as Chief Guest. The event also witnessed the presence of Sharangthem Shillasana Devi, Zilla Parishad Member of Hiyangthang Gram Panchayat, former Wangoi MLA Oinam Lukhoi, and social activist Dr. Kiran Yendrembam, along with prominent local citizens.
In his keynote address, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba emphasized the need to elevate football in Manipur to meet national and international standards. Highlighting the cultural significance of the sport, he said football instills discipline, team spirit, and unity, which are vital in building a strong sense of nationalism. He expressed confidence that players nurtured through such grassroots initiatives would be able to overcome future challenges through collective effort and determination.
