VDF Welfare Association urges timely action on service demands

The All Manipur VDF Employees’ Welfare Association has urged the State Government to take timely steps towards resolving various long-standing service-related grievances of Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Association stated that a recent meeting between its Central Committee and officials of the State Government yielded a positive outcome, with the government reportedly giving concrete assurance to initiate the process of addressing the demands submitted by the Association. A specific timeline of two months has been set for the initiation of file processing concerning the pending matters.
Among the key issues raised by the Association are the implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act, 1861, regularization of services, enhancement of pay, and enforcement of relevant Government Office Memorandums. The Association welcomed the State Government’s assurance and called upon all concerned departments to act promptly in line with the commitment made.
Particular emphasis was laid on the role of the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Imphal. The Association urged PHQ to expedite the submission of comments and justification reports to the Home Department so that the necessary documents could be endorsed and processed without delay. It further appealed to the Home Department to ensure that the reports and recommendations reach the Governor’s office at the earliest.
Acknowledging the steps already taken by the Government, the Association expressed appreciation for the initiatives and reaffirmed its trust in the authorities’ intention to address the grievances of VDF personnel. It also called for continued cooperation from departments such as the Police Headquarters, Finance, and Directorate of Personnel, so that the service-related issues could be resolved swiftly.
The Association appealed the State Government to honour its assurances and bring about a timely and satisfactory resolution of the long-pending demands of the VDF personnel.
