The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, successfully organized a Paediatric Cardiac Surgery Camp from 2nd to 6th June 2025 at the Regional Paediatric Cardiothoracic Centre. This marks the third such camp conducted in collaboration with Healing Little Hearts (HLH), a UK-based charitable organization dedicated to treating children with congenital heart disease in low-resource settings.
The visiting HLH surgical team was led by renowned paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Nayem Raja from Health City, Guwahati. The camp was fully supported by the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under the National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, which funded all surgeries and post-operative care.
A total of six children diagnosed with congenital heart defects underwent successful corrective surgeries during the camp. The procedures included two Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) repairs and four Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) repairs, all performed under Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB). All patients are currently recovering well at RIMS.
RIMS extend heartfelt gratitude to the Healing Little Hearts Foundation, the dedicated visiting surgical team, and NHM Manipur for their continued support in making this life-saving and humanitarian initiative a success. The institute remains committed to advancing paediatric cardiac care in the region and looks forward to future collaborations aimed at improving child health outcomes in Manipur and beyond.
