Imphal, March 26:
The dedicated efforts of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) bore fruit today as inmates of relief camps successfully performed the sacred Pung Esei during a wedding ceremony. Four female inmates, who had been trained in the traditional art, showcased their skills in an emotionally charged moment.
As the displaced individuals complete nearly two years in relief camps, the LSTB Pung Esei Jagoi Loisang has been actively engaging them in cultural preservation. Today, four young women from Serou, Gwaltabi, Kangpokpi, and Torbung, currently residing at Wangkhei High School Relief Camp, Sawombung Relief Camp, Lamboikhongnang Relief Camp, and Thangmeiband Relief Camp, performed the sacred wedding ritual successfully.
This marks the fifth time that the organization has facilitated such a performance at a wedding. Today’s event was particularly significant, as the four young women performed Pung Esei at the marriage ceremony of Sanjrembam Ongbi Chanu Leima w/o Rosan of Ekou at Thangmeiband Lilasingkhongnangkhong.
The ceremony was not just a wedding but a powerful testament to cultural resilience and faith. Despite enduring hardships for nearly two years, the inmates found solace in preserving their traditions. LSTB Pung Esei Jagoi Loisang, led by Oja Indira, has been instrumental in providing emotional and cultural support to those affected by the conflict.
With unwavering faith in Lainingthou Sanamahi, the organization has ensured that even in difficult times, traditions are upheld. As a result, five successful wedding ceremonies have now been conducted across five relief camps, keeping alive the spirit of the community.
Today’s event stands as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, cultural identity and traditional values remain strong, offering hope and unity to those displaced by conflict.
