One Day Awareness programme on Sexual Harassment of women at work places

One Day Awareness programme on Sexual Harassment of women at work places was successfully conducted at United College, Lambung, Chandel today at Science Seminar Hall under the keen initiative of Dr. BD. Thumdal, Principal.
The programme was attended by 70 participants comprising of Teachers, Non-teaching staff and students. Kshetrimayum Sarankumari Devi, Advocate, Panel Lawyer-Manipur state legal services Authority, was the main Resource person. She explained about the main objective of sexual harassment of women at work places Act 2013. She stated that sexual harassment results in violation of the fundamental rights of a woman to equality under Articles 14 & 15 of the constitution of India and her rights to life and to live with dignity under Article 21 of the constitution and to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation or trade or business with the inclusion of right to safe environment free from sexual harassment. The aggrieved person must file a complaint to the Internal Committee in writing within a period of three months. She has the right to transfer from its workplaces or to transfer the respondent in another place or has the right to get leave up to a period of three months in addition to its ordinary leave. If the complainant has prima facie, the committee has the power to give for enquiry to the police within 10 days of the Complaint filed.
The Act specially benefited to the women group may be an employee or working woman or a household worker. An employee of any sector or institute or department must paste or attach the panel sections/penalty of sexual harassment in the proper place of the institute or organization.
There was a very lively and threadbare interaction between the Resource person and the participants at the fag end of the programme.
