Imphal West VDF Association extends Rs 2 lakh aid to family of fallen VDF personnel

The Imphal West District VDF Employees’ Welfare Association has extended financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of Kh. Shinghajit Singh, a Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel who was killed in the line of duty on June 24, 2025.
Kh. Shinghajit Singh, VDF No. V111474, was posted at Patsoi Police Station and was a resident of Parao, Awang Sekmai. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, the Association, as a gesture of solidarity and condolence, provided the financial support. The amount was formally handed over to the bereaved family under the supervision of Imphal West SP, Ksh. Shivakanta Singh, IPS.
In addition to the immediate assistance, three savings accounts have been opened—one for the widow and two for the children—with Rs 1 lakh deposited into each account to provide long-term support.
The Imphal West SP has also offered strong moral and financial support to the family during this difficult period. The Association expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the SP, personnel of Patsoi Police Station, and all those who supported the family in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Highlighting the lack of an effective welfare mechanism for VDF personnel, the Association stated that although the VDF Welfare Fund was introduced in 2018, there remains no structured policy or development programme for personnel who die or are injured in the line of duty. It urged the Government of Manipur to formally recognise the sacrifices made by on-duty VDF personnel and to implement adequate welfare provisions through the Home Department.
The Association reiterated its appeal for the establishment of a comprehensive, 24×7 welfare scheme to ensure the security and dignity of all VDF personnel serving across the state.
