Eye Screening and Cataract Surgery Camp held at Thanga, 256 screened

A one-day free eye screening and cataract surgery camp was conducted at Thanga Haoreng Chingyang Community Hall under the initiative of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bishnupur District Branch. The camp was organised with the support of the district administration, led by Vice President of IRCS Bishnupur and In-Charge ADM Bishnupur, Toijam Opendro MCS, and Chairman Dr. Wahengbam Gulapi.
The event was jointly organised by Shija Eye Care Foundation, IRCS Bishnupur District Branch, National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) under NHM, and Sinheibi Development Organisation.
During the camp, ophthalmologists from Shija Eye Care Foundation provided various medical services, supported by IRCS Secretary Dr. H. Romen, YRC/JRC Coordinator S. Rakesh, several volunteers, and members of Sinheibi Development Organisation.
Medical examinations were conducted for cataract (Ngoudong), diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, childhood eye defects, corneal and pterygium issues, conjunctivitis, allergies, and other common eye conditions. A total of 256 individuals — 132 women and 124 men — were screened at the camp.
Executive Member of Sinheibi Development Organisation, Khoirom Lokeshwor, stated that patients identified for cataract surgery will undergo operations soon. The initiative aims to offer timely intervention to those suffering from preventable blindness.
