Imphal, Jan 29:

The Zo-Reunification Organization (ZORO) staged protests across Mizoram and parts of Manipur today, burning copies of the state government’s order abolishing the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and introducing a new border pass system along the Indo-Myanmar border. The organization also opposed the planned border fencing.
The protests were held in Aizawl and major district capitals, including Champhai, Lunglei, Kolasib, Serchhip, Mimbung, and Vaphai. Demonstrations also took place in Manipur’s Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
Expressing disappointment, ZORO Vice President Rohmingthanga Kawlni stated, “We are saddened by the Central government’s decision to cut off communication with our brothers and sisters across the border. We also criticize the state government for supporting this move by issuing the order to abolish FMR.”
ZORO General Secretary L. Ramdinliana Renthlei added that the people of Mizoram and the Zo ethnic tribes strongly oppose this decision. He pointed out that the Mizoram State Legislative Assembly had already passed a unanimous resolution against it, showing that the people do not support the Centre’s move.
“If the Indian government proceeds without our consent, we will not be responsible for any consequences,” Renthlei warned. “ZORO will continue to resist the lifting of FMR and border fencing, and we will plan stronger actions. We urge all citizens to stand with us.”
During the protest, speeches were delivered by Joseph Lalhimpuia, General Secretary of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee, former minister T.J. Lalnuntluanga of the Mizo National Front, and Ngursailova Sailo, PAC member of the Zoram People’s Movement.
