Younger brother kills elder sibling in Thoubal

A tragic event occurred yesterday in Thoubal district when a younger brother fatally shot his elder sibling, a school principal, after a heated dispute. According to police, the dispute between Sapam Somorjit, 43, a bank ATM security guard, and his elder brother, Sapam Swaminath, 47, escalated into violence at their residence in Thoubal Ningombam Singam Leikai.
The altercation, initially sparked by a family matter, took a grievous turn when Somorjit, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, discharged a firearm, fatally striking his elder brother in the chest. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Imphal, Swaminath succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Manipur police have taken Somorjit into custody, and the weapon used in the tragic event has been recovered. A formal case has been registered, and Swaminath’s body has been sent to JNIMS hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
