WTR slams Arambai Tenggol’s “Treasonous” act at Shirui Lily Festival, demands apology within 48 hours

Ukhrul, May 24:

The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), through its Wung-Tangkhul Region (WTR) Secretariat, has issued a strongly worded condemnation against Arambai Tenggol’s Cobra Team Unit 58 for what it termed as a “provocative and treasonous” act during the ongoing Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul district.
In a public statement released on Saturday, WTR lambasted the group for hoisting the ‘Salai Taret’ flag atop Shirui peak — a move the GPRN branded as “an unfounded narrative” and “blatant intrusion” into Tangkhul territory. “The ‘Salai Taret’ flag has no cultural, historical, or political association with the Tangkhul people,” the statement asserted, adding that such acts only reflect Arambai Tenggol’s “war-mongering” nature.
WTR described the timing and location of the incident as particularly insensitive, coming amidst a celebration of unity and diversity at the nationally recognized Shirui Lily Festival, where people from various communities and faiths had gathered in a spirit of festivity.
Calling the act “lowbrow,” “uncivilized,” and “sheer stupidity,” the statement accused Arambai Tenggol of violating established social and cultural protocols in a region beyond their jurisdiction. “We pity the poor souls of Arambai Tenggol,” the Secretary of WTR remarked, emphasizing the community’s outrage over the perceived disrespect.
WTR has demanded an unqualified public apology from Arambai Tenggol within 48 hours, failing which unspecified consequences may follow. The incident has stirred strong emotions among the local population and could potentially escalate tensions if not addressed promptly.
The state authorities have yet to respond to the statement.
