Wrath over the attitude of Indian Govt.: Women leaders demand withdrawal of ‘Merger Agreement’, release of abducted Meitei youths

Imphal, Oct 1:

“We are fed up with your attitude towards Manipur. Now we don’t want to stay with you. Withdraw the Merger Agreement signed between Manipur and the Indian Union. We don’t want to be a part of India; we will fight the Kuki militants by ourselves,” said 85-year-old Th. Ramani, pointing fingers at Indian leaders.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, veteran women leaders Thokchom Ramani and Lourembam Nganbi raised serious allegations regarding the abduction of two youths who had gone for recruitment under the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) with the 33 Assam Rifles (AR).
Thokchom Ramani expressed frustration over the lack of action, accusing the Indian Army of involvement in what she described as a conspiracy. She demanded that the abducted youths be handed over to their parents and women’s organizations, questioning the accountability of both the Indian Army and the state government. “This is too much; many have died, and many have been abducted,” she said, adding that the situation has escalated to a breaking point for the people of Manipur.
Th. Ramani criticized the Indian government, claiming that it does not respect Manipur’s sovereignty or its government. She called for the “withdrawal of the Merger Agreement signed by Maharaja Bodhchandra,” arguing that the Indian government has failed to protect Manipur and its people.
Speaking on behalf of Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Lourembam Nganbi stated that out of the three boys who went for recruitment, one has been released, while two remain in captivity, raising further concerns of a conspiracy.
L. Nganbi called for the return of Manipur’s pre-merger status. “We had our own constitution before the merger, and it should all be returned to us,” she said, emphasizing her demand for the restoration of Manipur’s sovereignty. She also revealed that she had raised these issues in the Inter-State Council of Manipur (ISCOM) but had faced threats and persecution. “They are trying to persecute me and are threatening me for raising pre-merger issues,” she said.
L. Nganbi condemned the alleged abduction, urging both the Manipur and Indian governments to act swiftly. She called the incident “unfortunate” and demanded the safe return of the youths, warning that the situation has become intolerable for the people of Manipur.
